A Case for Practical Philosophy
We live in an era that seeks to satisfy our inner needs and daily struggles by selling us short. Creature comforts facilitated by technology make us feel that there is always something newer and better. The quest to keep up with the latest and greatest is never-ending.
In today’s world, we can find a product that gives us everything we want—except for the most essential and basic needs. – the tools necessary to live better.
Most of us consider “suffering” an inevitable feature in our lives. It is so ingrained in us that we not only accept it but can’t even conceive of the possibility of living without it.
Philosophical Style has a proposition.
Let’s consider that our daily suffering is a limitation we impose on ourselves. Perhaps we don’t know any other way. If we change the source of the cause of our suffering, we might avoid the suffering entirely.
Learning to use philosophical tools provided and guided by a Philosophical Coach uncovers the source of our problems and conflicts and changes this point of view.
Philosophical Coaching is the most effective method of gaining the tools necessary to support and counter our current behavior so that we can be happier.
Coaches who specialize in golf, gym, dance, cooking, sales, and more train their students to improve and work towards becoming experts in their chosen specialty. So... why don’t we have a coach to teach us techniques to live better?
Socrates walked and chatted with his students about simple topics, including the problems faced in everyday life. They philosophized, looking for ways to think and act better. Socrates shared Aristotle’s thinking, “What must be learned is learned by doing it.” The meaning here is that what is learned theoretically, if not applied, is not truly learned and is soon forgotten, thus useless. Therefore, philosophical ideas must be actionable and put into practice.
Expressing our problems and causes of suffering to our coach, we can review and discuss them together from a practical philosophical perspective. Inspirational ideas from the great thinkers of humanity are then put into practice.
Because we are all very different, our ideas might be assimilated in different ways and timelines.
The Philosophical Coaches help us transform good ideas from theory into usable, practical, everyday tools. They do this through balancing and empowering training for the activities we want to develop. They will give us practical tools to simple issues before they become complex and counter to our living well.
Carrying an unresolved issue weighs heavy on our shoulders. Having the tools to resolve it lightens us. Once we learn how to face it, whenever we encounter that troublesome issue, we know how to face it.
Why Turn To Philosophy?
Through time, philosophy and its great thinkers have provided humanity with countless thoughts that, put into practice, help us improve our quality of life. With adequate training,
negative tendencies disappear. We can abandon the “mandatory and self-imposed suffering” that comes in the company of anguish, loneliness, boredom, and depression, which oftentimes leads to bad days and, eventually, inner imbalance.
This different view will give us more compassion and understanding of others while teaching us about our limitations and true capabilities—a discovery that will be as much a surprise to us as to those around us!
